Field of activity

The Better Migration Management (BMM) programme is a cooperation between the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is financed by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa (Horn of Africa Window). The programme is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with six other European and International agencies and based on a omprehensive and holistic approach towards migration management.

The overall objective is to improve migration management in the region, and in particular to address the trafficking in Humans (ToH) and the Smuggling of Migrants (SoM) within and from the Horn of Africa. Three regional offices ensure the timely and coordinated implementation in the region. For the support of the regional office in Khartoum the program is looking for a Junior expert with experience in migration management as well as monitoring and evaluation.

Your tasks

  • Regular updating of the BMM Annual Work Plans (AWP) for Sudan and Eritrea, including monitoring of all activities in the framework of BMM in Sudan and Eritrea, timely reporting of progress to the Brussels Coordination Office, as well as documenting lesson learnt
  • Assistance in the compliance by all BMM actors with BMM Communication and Visibility Concept as well as support to its implementation, with PR work, elaboration of communications material (reports, press release…)
  • Regular knowledge management as well as thematic support in the areas of border management, training management and/or CSO networking
  • Coordination and support to the implementation of activities on protection of vulnerable migrants (victims of trafficking and victims of SGBV)
  • Preparation of meetings, workshops, facilitation of missions and contracting short term experts

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Migration and/or psychology or Social Sciences or another relevant field of study, preferably in post conflict situations or in field of migration and/or displacement protection of trafficking victims, anti-trafficking and/or peace and security
  • Knowledge of German development cooperation as well as GIZ procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and readiness to undertake field missions outside major cities computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Fluent English skills, German and/or Arabic language skills are an asset
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and
  • Good organizational skills, capable of working independently
  • Africa experience (Horn of Africa and/or sub-Saharan Africa) is desirable
  • Initial work experience in particular in development cooperation projects, in the areas of refugee work,
  • alternatively an equivalent combination of training and experience in field of operations and logistics
