OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
After completing clearance work in Eastern Sudan, our client in Sudan is focusing on clearing landmines and ERWs for humanitarian purposes in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, the most contaminated states in Sudan due to ongoing armed conflict since 2011.
The objectives of this project are to:
(i) Enable safe humanitarian aid delivery through survey and clearance roads and area in South Kordofan and Blue Nile contaminated by landmines and ERW.
(ii) Reduce casualties among the Sudanese population, refugees and humanitarian actors through risk education.
(iii) Improve coordination and monitoring of humanitarian mine action across Sudan.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
Support Operations Adviser to conduct quality assurance and monitoring of the mine action activities in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
Support National Mine Action Center and national implementing partners to build solid and rigorous quality assurance and quality management capacity.
Support Operations Adviser in all aspects of works in sub-office and field operations.
Expected output:
Assist Operations Adviser in local coordination meetings with government, UN and NGOs.
Support Operations Adviser to coordinate, facilitate and prioritize all operational tasking for MA within the area of deployment.
Support in works related to sub-office management including vehicle.
Capable of driving office vehicle to field and any locations required by Operations Adviser.
Capable of translating Arabic-English and vice-versa for Operations Adviser when required.
Maintain close coordination with NMAC in all aspect of mine action operations in the field.
Assist Operation Adviser in monitoring grants/contracts with all mine action partners to ensure contractual conformity and humanitarian principle.
Ensure close and effective interaction and coordination of the integral aspects of mine action, such as QA, Mine Victim Support and Mine Risk Education.
Assist in supervising of QA assessments and ensure that all QA assessment data is captured on IMSMA.
Support providing guidance on any specific corrective actions to be taken by demining organizations, following an inspection, which finds a critical non-conformity.
Ensure proper maintenance of documentation for all inspected land.
Other tasks as directed by the Operations Adviser and Program Manager.
Reporting on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis on progress to Operations Adviser.
Report on coordination and other issues on ad-hoc basis as required/requested.
Ensure that all reporting on achievement are captured in INSMA.
Project reporting:
- This role reports to the Sudan Program Manager.
Team management:
- This role does not have team management responsibility.
Education:
- Bachelor's in relevant to the role. and/or Certificate in EOD Level 2.
Work experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of demonstrable relevant Mine Action experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Africa (essential).
- Experience in mine action operations and quality assurance with EOD level-2 certificate.
- At least 10 years of experience in mine action operations or relevant.
- Proven and applicable experience in operations in humanitarian mine action desired.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic are essential.
