About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the South Sudan programme:

South Sudan is one of the youngest, poorest and least developed countries world-wide. The 2013 outbreak of hostilities has led to thousands of people being killed or wounded, and hundreds of thousands of people being displaced by the violence. MAG has been successfully working in South Sudan since 2004, to clear landmines/unexploded ordnance and deliver mine risk education to at-risk populations in a constantly challenging environment. We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and driven Country Director to lead our programme in South Sudan, who will have overall responsibility for the delivery of MAGs activities in-country.

About the role:

As Country Director, you will be based in Juba but expected to frequently support the teams camping in the field sites. Reporting to the Regional Director you will be responsible for the effective integration of strategic, programmatic and operational management in compliance with contractual obligations and MAG’s mission and mandate. You will have a wide variety of strategic responsibilities including contract management, donor liaison, business development, people management, security management, capacity building and risk management. This senior role will provide you with the opportunity to use your people management skills, leading a large team of staff operating across a complex and varied environment. You will also have the opportunity to use your skills in stakeholder management, to take a leading role in donor development, identifying funding opportunities in a demanding donor environment

About you:

As well as demonstrable skills in people, project and financial management, you will need previous experience working overseas in senior management roles, success in raising resources for your programme, with hands-on management and leading large-scale projects and/or programmes, from project design through to contract delivery. Previous experience of being responsible for a programme in a challenging political, logistical and security environment would also be highly advantageous. You don’t need previous experience in mine action and we welcome applications from experienced managers who deliver results from any development sector.

How to apply:

For the further information on the role, the application form and details of how to apply, please visit, the MAG website at www.maginternational.org/vacancies-at-MAG by the closing date of Sunday 29 July 2018.
