Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of the largest non-governmental aid agencies in Germany. We provide integrated aid: from rapid disaster relief to reconstruction and long-term development assistance projects in conjunction with local partner organizations. Since our foundation in 1962, we have provided Euro €2.25 billion worth of funding for more than 6,600 projects in 70 countries.
Welthungerhilfe has implemented projects in Sudan since 1998, with a gradual growth in operational areas since 2003 and is currently based in North Darfur, Kassala, Gedaref and Red Sea States. We are a major humanitarian partner for WFP general food distribution and cash voucher distribution in North Darfur. While humanitarian interventions will continue to be a focus for Welthungerhilfe Sudan in the 2017-2020 programming period, our organization will shift its focus towards rehabilitation and resilience building for rural communities to fight hunger and attain Food & Nutrition Security.The target groups include Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Rural Communities, Agro-pastoralists, Pastoralists, Fishing Groups and Women.We receive donor support from WFP, UNDP-DCPSF, DFID, EU, ECHO, GIZ, AA and BMZ.
Kassala is a growing operation for WHH Sudan, with the current EU project being extended for an additional year, and 3 new projects coming on-line within the next few months from BMZ, GIZ and DFID. The operation will grow from one expat manager to more than 5 within the course of the next year. Further, a new sub-office will be opned in Gedaref, a neighbouring state where project will be implemeted across state lines between Kassala and Gedaref.
Kassala itself is a safe and secure environment with no security issues, and has even been designated as a family duty station for UN agencies. The position will be based in the State of Kassala, and within the City of Kassala, which is also the capital. Kassala is one of the largest cities in Sudan, with decent living conditions, restaurants, and opportunities for hiking. The city is one of the main destinations for newly weds in Sudan, and sees a large number of Sudanese traveling to the State and the City.
