Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Infection Prevention and Control lead or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:
- Provide technical support to Strengthen country capacity on infection prevention and control (IPC) strategies, guidelines and tools, workplan development, implementation and monitoring at national and sub-national levels, in collaboration with other clusters
- Support review of existing IPC resources in the region to ensure harmonization and standardization and provide technical support as needed in development of standardized IPC guidelines and training modules.
- Wil coordinate and deliver WHO IPC toolkit/package trainings to target countries in the African region beginning with at risk countries (fragile/conflict states in the region)
- Support. review of existing IPC resources in the region to ensure harmonization and standardization
- Support documentation and publication of evidence-based approaches in field IPC interventions across the region
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent

Desired: Master’s degree in public health, Nursing, Medicine or Biomedical sciences

Area of expertise details:
First level university degree in Medicine, Nursing, or public health
- At least 4 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in clinical or field infection prevention control with a minimum of 1 year in disease outbreak response.
Desirable:
- Field experience in IPC for viral haemorrhagic fevers and Cholera;
- Experience in WHO or other UN organizations would be an asset.
- Experience with teaching and training on IPC or other medical sciences
Skills: Scientific writing; experience with at least 1 data analytics software (SPSS, STATA, R); good communications, resource mobilization, and interpersonal skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; ability to work with tight deadlines;
Driving license: No
