CONTEXT

The Sudanese Development Initiative (SUDIA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization working for peace, development and good governance in Sudan. Over the past decade, SUDIA’s programming on democracy and human rights promotion has sought to support and strengthen the role of civil society organizations, national networks and the media in advancing the state of democracy and human rights in the country. A hallmark of SUDIA has been its efforts in promoting a conducive and enabling environment for civil society and supporting their active role as stewards of good governance, democracy and peace whilst emphasizing the participation of youth, women and other marginalized groups in political and development processes.

SUDIA has been awarded a grant from the USAID to implement a project titled “Promising Futures for Sudan” and which was formulated to further the organizations effort in this domain. The organization is now seeking a qualified candidate who will lead on the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of a variety of capacity development, awareness raising and research activities of the project.

KEY TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely and under the supervision of the Managing Director the Project Manager will be responsible for the overall timely and quality implementation of the project. Key tasks/responsibilities include -

  • Maintain project work plans and ensuring timely implementation of project activities and the achievement of project results.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnership and liaison with implementing partners, the donor community, government entities, local authorities, UN agencies and other key stakeholders;
  • Draft monthly, interim and final reports on project activities, in line with donor requirements and SUDIA reporting standards and procedures, tracking the timely submission of such reports.
  • Work closely with the SUDIA communications officer to facilitate the reflection of project activities and achievements in social media, websites, and reports;
  • Work closely with the SUDIA MEAL Manager to ensure the quality of the project and the implementation of mid-term and final reviews of the project;
  • Contribute to the identification of new areas of interventions, the development of concept notes, project proposals and budgets;
  • Assist with the timely coordination of contracts with service providers, procurement of required items and the timely payment to suppliers and contractors.
  • Supervise and act as line manager for assigned project officers, interns and volunteers;
  • Undertake duty travel as may be required.
  • Perform other administrative and technical duties that may be assigned

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development, Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in project/programme management with supervisory responsibilities and demonstrated achievements;
  • Ability to liaise with government officials and coordination with key partners;
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of finances, procurement and human resources;
  • Strong experience in developing proposals and budgets, and preparing donor reports;
  • Experience planning, organizing and facilitation of training's;
  • Experience in conducting Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), with understanding of M&E tools and approaches;

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Strong management and organization skills;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High level of personal motivation and commitment, and an ability to work under minimal supervision and as a team member;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic

  • Based in-country
  • Previous knowledge or experience with Futures Thinking and Foresight Technologies;
