Background information/Organizational Context:

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It also has a mandate to help stateless people. Duties and Responsibilities:

UNHCR’s External Relations Unit in Abu Dhabi is looking for a bright, motivated intern to support its activities with governmental partners and UNHCR field offices. The intern will be a high caliber individual, with strong critical and analytical thinking, drafting skills, and full of energy.
• Provide research and analysis support and produce concise summaries
• Support in drafting correspondence with partners in Arabic and English
• Support in drafting briefing notes and other reporting material as needed
• Support in preparing the necessary research and materials for upcoming meetings with partners, and any needed deliverables from meeting outcomes and due tasks
• Update and maintain contacts directory and distribution lists
• Perform other duties as needed
Minimum qualifications required
• Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
• Excellent drafting skills in Arabic are required.
• A degree from a credited university; preferably in the political science, international relations, development, journalism or any related field. Undergraduate students can also apply.
• Strong passion for refugee affairs and UNHCR’s work.
• Awareness of humanitarian affairs and political environment in the MENA and GCC region.
• Attention to detail and a results-oriented team player

Eligibility

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of
UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
This appointment is subject to proof of vaccination against Covid-19 with WHO approved vaccine, medical clearance and satisfactory reference checks.

Allowance

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
