Organizational Setting and Reporting This position is located in Zalingei, within the Engineering Section of the Africa Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The incumbent will report to the Sector Engineer.

Duties and responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Associate Engineer (Mechanical) will apply professional engineering knowledge and expertise in performance of the following duties:

• Perform periodic, diagnostic service and repair of generators and mechanical systems and providing guidance to technicians. • Coordinate with generator unit supervisor for the work plane, maintenance, and any other related works, and prepare the write off technical reports for generators. • Conduct direct inspection of overhauling of all size of generator from 5 KVA up to 810 KVA in the sectors workshop or team sites. • Preparing and raising of work orders in data base “Galileo system” for all generator unit works. • Determines feasibility of repair or replacement of electrical generation and distribution systems as well as HVAC systems by estimating costs of repairs for electrical and HVAC systems in existing buildings and facilities. • Prepare annual requisition plan, raise the list of spare parts required for generators maintenance, and do the technical evaluation assessments. • Carrying out training sessions and technical guidance required to improve the performance of the national staff and Individual contractors (IC). • Design, Set up and Installation, of interfacing of generators synchronizing systems. • Prepare submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports for maintenance works and fuel monitoring. • Perform other duties as required;

Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Qualifications:

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in Mechanical engineering. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering or related fields. Demonstrates knowledge of electrical power generation systems, distribution, switching and control is desirable.

Language: Fluency in both spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
