Project description

The Education Quality Improvement Programme in Sudan (EQUIP) is an initiative funded by the EU Trust Fund for Africa and implemented by Expertise France – in Partnership with the CIEP, UNICEF, British Council and Save the Children. The Programme seeks to improve the quality of primary education in Sudan, with particular attention to the most vulnerable groups, including migrants, IDPs and refugees, especially girls, through the improvement of equitable access to quality primary education. The Programme consists of three components: (i) improve learning environments, in formal and non-formal settings, (ii) overcome the low level of qualifications of Sudanese teachers in basic education, and (iii) enhance the education system governance and coordination among stakeholders.

Expertise France/ CIEP will be involved in the implementation of Component 2 and be especially in charge of the Pre-Service Teacher Training activities.

Job description

Under the supervision of Expertise France and in close collaboration with the CIEP, the project team leader is responsible for overall project and team management. S/he is in charge of project coordination and leadership addressing pre-service teacher training project including:

· Provide overall strategic and general technical leadership;

· Act as a project manager for daily follow-up and strategic management ;

· Ensure monitoring of financial and administrate aspects of the project;

· Ensure timely execution of the project action plan including achievement of project targeted results;

· Ensure effective and efficient operations of the project team;

· Coordinate the needs assessment phase;

· Ensure project monitoring and update on a monthly basis the project action plan;

· Write brief monthly reports and ensure the timely delivery of bi-yearly progress report, including taking part in writing relevant sections;

· Work in close collaboration with both the ministry of education and the ministry of higher education, including Faculties of education at both central and State levels;

· In close collaboration with the teacher training expert, coordinate regularly with all operating agencies under the EU funded programme addressing teacher training;

· Ensure a regular liaison with the backstopping team.

Qualifications and skills

· Advanced university degree in education or related fields

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the education sector;
  • Relevant international experience preferably in Africa is an asset, or fragile countries
  • Experience in managing technical projects as a Team Leader or project coordinator
  • Experience working with various partners including ministry staff
  • Good knowledge of primary/ basic education issues, including preferably teacher training related issues
  • Experience working in multi-lingual/international environment
  • Fluent in English, French, first language,
  • Arabic is an asset.
